When I was young I sat down with my grandpa and asked him
about his youth, his days, his plans he had made for his life
I was confused this question brought tears to his eyes
and he bandied sad looks with his beloved wife.

He said boy listen up and listen carefully, times haven’t always been this great!
We had to fight for our freedom - justice and peace in our darkest days
Blinded by bigotry and hate

Now that I’m older I have to say that we are not, no we are not so far away - from 1933
I always thought that we would learn from our mistakes – but it’s one step forward and three steps back to 1933

I am so ill at ease, fascism spreading like a fuckin’ disease
Do we need another war to wake up and see?
New laws – we’re living in a police state
Old fears – igniting a mindset of hate
Ignorance is bliss and yet our fate!
